There is a flower shop that we usually pass when we go out for lunch. On their sign they always put up a name and if your name matches the one on the sign you get to go in and get a free rose. Well for over 3 1/2 years "Lindsay" has never been on there until today!
So after 3 1/2 years of not working weekends, most nights and only every other Friday I decided to get a part time job. (I don't need the extra income but it will help with my shopping habits!) There was a new GAP store going in not too far from my apartment so I applied and got the job! (I mean really who wouldn't want to hire me?!) My neighbor Heather got a part-time job there too, which will be fun! Last weekend we walked into our store for the first time and all there was were walls! We helped get the store up in running within a week - getting the fixtures up and clothes sorted and placed. It was a lot of work, but a ton of fun! I took at picture of the store the night before it opened to shoppers:
I am really excited to work here, I have met some really nice people and the clothes are super cute!! O did I mention the Employee Discount - AWESOME!!! So if you live near Riverdale, UT stop by our new store! (It is located right next to the RC Wiley on Riverdale Road) We are going to be having some great sales going on between now and Christmas and is def worth a trip over! And of course you might be able to see me - so that will totally make it worth it! : )
When I was at my cousin Becky's house last week I remembered that she had some great prints from a Minnesota artist, Adam Turman. So we went and looked on his Web site (www.AdamTurman.com) and found three perfect prints for my kitchen! I have been looking for something to put in my kitchen because my sister said I was too old to decorate with old concert posters - which is what has been in there since I moved in!
The style of the pictures are so me and I love the midwest flare they have! I went Michael's today and guess what they were having a sale on frames - lucky me!!! I got three great frames for $12 each (originally $27!) and I think they compliment the prints really well!
Here are some pictures of them:
I love the colors - they are actually my three favorite colors that i have throughout my apartment.
Who doesn't love anything that says "You Betcha!"
If you don't know what Lutefisk is it is a very very smelly fish that some people eat, usually around the holidays. (At least that is when some people in my family eat it)
I am really happy with they way they look in my lil kitchen - definitely adds some color and spunk! Please go and take a look at Adam's Web site www.AdamTurman.com, he has a ton of great prints! He even signed the order form to me - def a keep sake!
For Thanksgiving this year I flew up to Eugene, Oregon to visit my cousin Becky. She moved out there this summer and I thought it was time to go and visit her! Also she lives an hour away from the ocean and I have never been to the ocean...its true!
Here are a few pictures from my visit:
We hiked down Hobbit Trail - it totally felt like we were on our way to Mordor!!
I made a friend on the beach - His name is Ollie. It was his first time at the ocean too!
Becks and Me on Hobbit Beach
We found a dead jellyfish..I thought we should poke it with a stick...Becks wasn't so sure...
Safe to say I was pretty excited to be at the ocean - I think this picture captures that!
This is my favorite shot of the day!
I had a fantastic time up there and cannot wait to visit again! Eugene was a very interesting city and Oregon is just beautiful!!! If you get a chance to go and visit up there I highly recommend going!
So my birthday present for to myself was a new tattoo! I got 27 in roman numerals on the inside of my left wrist. I really like it and love seeing it everyday - it feels like it should have always been there and it was missing before.
O and I found out who was doing the golden gifts, it was...my sister Tamara and Ma! They enlisted the help of my co-workers Carly and Caitlin to leave them for me! I loved all 27 days of the golden gifts!
Well my golden birthday was great! (Minus working 12 hours that day...) But I was awake for 21 hours out of the 24 hours...so I got to enjoy almost every minute! I will post more later about the day and what I bought myself! Hope everyone enjoys the Halloween weekend!
ME!!! I received first place for Best Batch of chili and tied for first for Hottest Chili!!!! There was 13 chili's in the cook-off and I tried everyone...I had one full belly after that. But alas Chili Cook-off is my second favorite work day (after Pie day...) This was a very nice win to have the week of my birthday! Now I have to think of a chili to make for next year - any suggestions?
I love to carve pumpkins! For the last two years I have received pumpkins from my good friends the Foo's (Thanks!!) They are the sweetest people ever that they even give me a pumpkin for Rue to 'carve'! We have had such nice weather here this past week that I thought it would be a great idea to carve the pumpkins out on the deck - and plus Rue likes to sit on the deck with me.
Rue thought that he should check out what was in that pumpkin...looked a lil suspicious....
Our pumpkins turned out great!!!
Carving pumpkins kind of wore Rue out...this is how I found him when I was done cleaning up our pumpkin mess!
For the first time I attempted to make pumpkin seeds and I learned a valuable lesson: Wax paper is NOT the same as Parchment paper...don't ask...
The seeds turned out pretty good and I brought some to work for people to eat and everyone loved them! Here is the recipe:
2 egg white
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups fresh pumpkin seeds (cleaned off)
Preheat oven to 375˚F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. In a bowl, whisk together everything but the pumpkin seeds. When mixed add the seeds and toss to coat. Spread seeds in a single layer across the baking sheet and back for ~15 min. Stir them up a bit and put back in the oven for 5 more min until they are golden in color. And enjoy!!!
Every year our building at work does a Chili Cook off and every year I eat my weights worth in chili...well worth it though! Last winter I bought a crock pot and said I would make a chili for this years Cookoff. My neighbor Heather made me an awesome White Chicken Chili one day and gave me the recipe and I thought I would give it a try. Made a few minor changes to the one she gave me and I thought it turned out wonderfully! So I thought I would share! Here is the recipe:
White Chicken Chili
1 lb cooked chicken chopped
One 48 oz jar of white beans
One 16 oz jar of salsa (med or hot - depending on what you like)
8 oz shredded monterey jack or Taco blend cheese
One half tsp cumin
1/4 cup cilantro (because I believe everything tastes better with cilantro)
1/4 cup green onion cup up
Bag of tortilla chips
Since I am weird with meat I just got two cans of already cooked and chopped. (Heather got a rotisserie chicken and cut that up.) I drained and rinsed the chicken and put that in a skillet. I then put the cut up cilantro and green onion in with the chicken and sprinkled it with some fajita seasoning. I let that cook for a lil bit.
While that was cooking I got out my trusty crock pot...
Then I added the rest of the ingredients into the crock pot. I decided to use HOT salsa - and o believe me it gave it a nice kick!
When the chicken doesn't look like it came straight from a can - I then added it to the crock pot. It should look like this:
I had it cook in the crock pot on the highest temp for about an hour and a half. (You can make this on your stove top - it is quicker, but doesn't everything taste better if it cooked in a crock pot??)
When the chili is done serve it up nice and hot and crunch some tortilla chips on the top and ENJOY!
I will definitely be making this for our Chili Cook Off this year! (Wish me luck!) This is a great dinner idea for a cold winters night or great for watching the game!
I have continued to receive Golden Gifts everyday so far! The Golden Gift giver is getting pretty creative finding different places to surprise me with the gifts...on Tuesday I went out to my car after work and this is what I found:
Yum GOLDFISH crackers!
Whoever is doing this awesome thing either knows me really well OR they have been rummaging through my apartment finding what I am out of (i.e. Hair binders, bobby pins and make up!)
The ring I got is a leaf and it goes over two fingers - TOTALLY my style! Love it!!
For those who live in the Midwest know when you turn the age your birth date is it is referred to as your "Golden Birthday". This year it is my Golden Birthday!!! I will be turning 27 on the 27th of October. I have been talking about this birthday for at least a year because I am really excited for it! Apparently someone took note of my excitement and they have been leaving me golden gifts...
The first golden gift I found was at 11:30 pm on October 1st outside my door. My neighbor Heather had been down at my place watching a movie and when she left she said "Ah someone left you something" and at my doorstep was a blue and gold purse with a noted that said "To Keep All Things Golden...More to Come..." I was super confused and it didn't click with me what it was - then it hit me that it was a golden gift! I have received a golden gift and a note each day of the month so far and I am really really appreciative of whoever is doing this!!! I have my suspicions...but will wait until my birthday to figure out who is being so sweet. The gifts have been left in a variety of places and at different times of the day - I even found one of the gifts on my lunch in the freezer at work!! Here is a few pictures of the golden gifts I have received so far:
Now since my blog is up and running I will try to post when I find others!
I am extremely picky at somethings - including picking out an iPhone case. When I bought my phone I just picked up a case at the store and thought no big deal I could find one that I actually liked in no time. Well I have had my iPhone for almost 6 months now and still no dice on finding a case I liked. So I searched online because I was determined to find one I liked, but after hours of searching I could not find a case that said 'Lindsay'.
Then I found www.case-mate.com and saw for the same price of a pre-designed iPhone case you could design your own! YAY!!!!!! So I went in and played around with their 'I Make My Case' application and really dug the Shadow Chen designs. I designed my case, ordered it and 4 days later it was waiting for me in my mailbox! Here is my new iPhone case:
I have had it a few days and so far I am really happy with it! The site was really easy to use and the product is up to my standards (looks good and durable) - I would recommend them. You can use your own photos or graphics on the Web site too, you don't have to use the graphics they provide you. I thought this was a good deal and a great buy so I thought I would share!
Hello! My name is Lindsay and I figured I would start a blog. What am I going to write about? Great Q - one I do not have an answer to! I'll probably post whatever fancies me that day, anything I find interesting, great deals I find or whats going on in my life!
The title of the blog is kinda a joke I always make about myself. I always talk about how great I am and I always have to say how humble I am...cause I kinda am not! You'll see...
